Understanding Design Principles
Balance/Contrast
- There is balance is the colours used, there are two main colours black and white.
- The picture in the middle is balanced with the title of the album and the name of the band in two black strips one on top and one on bottom.
- The most noticeable (largest) person is set on the right of the cover with two other people balancing it out on the other side.
- They have a very simple pattern on this cover, there is a pattern between the white and black with two clear illustrations of white space in the middle and off to the left side.
- Another pattern is that it is framed by a black frame at the top and bottom of the cover.
- Also there are multiple small visuals in this album cover to balance the features on the people.
- There is a lot of emphasis on the words on this cover, they are clearly seen on this album. The words are put off by themselves with a black background and white lettering.
- The guitar is also emphasized because of the placement of it and the colours used, it is an off white colour with a dark black hand which draws your attention straight to that.
- They only used one font for both pieces of text to create unity between the two words because it is the band name along with the title of the album.
- This also sticks to one colour palette throughout the whole cover.
- They repeat the same colour throughout the design to create unity, but also to create proximity and make things seem "smushed" together in a way.
